Pippin is a Tony-award winning musical that opened on Broadway in 1972. Rave reviews were given to director and choreographer Bob Fosse, leading player Ben Vereen, and Stephen Schwartz who wrote the music and lyrics. An eclectic acting troupe invites the audience to see their story of Pippin, the son of Charlemagne, a great medieval ruler. Pippin believes he is destined for an extraordinary life if he can only discover what he is meant to do. His search leads him to become a soldier, a politician, an artist, and to a relationship with a young widow named Catherine – but nothing makes him happy. His father is too busy being king to help him. Fastrada, his devious stepmother, is determined to see that her son, Lewis, becomes Charlemagne’s successor. Pippin’s search leads him to the grand finale of the show and a choice that only he can make.
